What is Taekwon-Do?

"Taekwon-Do is a martial art to be used only for self defence and only in the cause of justice. The history of Korea contains not a single sample of its military forces being employed for the invasion of its neighbors or for any other purpose except national defence."

Taekwon-Do has grown in popularity since its inception and is now taught in nearly every country in the world. It is most famous for its spectacular and dynamic kicking techniques, although this has led to the misconception that Taekwon-Do is just a kicking art.

Taekwon-Do does indeed make extensive use of the legs, since the legs are longer and more powerful than the arms, but kicks make up only a small fraction of the total number of Taekwon-Do techniques. There are also blocks, punches and strikes with the hands or arms as well as basic throws and grappling.

The wide range of techniques caters for all types of situations, and students are taught to defend against single and multiple opponents, on foot, seated and prone, and against weapons such as sticks and knives.

Kids TKD

The children's class for 8 years and above is ideal for kids requiring "personal life skills" including Self Discipline, Confidence, Goal setting and Respect. Our classes are a great way for your child to release extra energy in a safe, fun and constructive way whilst motivating them to excel and improve themselves.

As well as learning to kick and punch in a controlled environment, your child will benefit from our professional attitude and positive role models. Martial arts training can be an essential part of your child's development, helping to prepare them for real life.

For our Adults class we have found that although TKD is excellent for those who are under 18yrs, we have found that those in full time employment find TKD a really good release of energy and a focus that helps them to goal set, be it for weight loss, to make friendship or to set becoming a black belt as their ultimate intention. Many of our adults go on to compete and surprise themselves at how well they can do on the competition circuit.

Our kids classes run in line with School terms and our Teens/Adult classes continue throughout the year with just a short break over the Christmas period.

Additional info

Our students will also have the opportunity to take part in our seminars and competitions with some even able to compete at international level.

All our instructors are DBS checked (police checked) and must qualify through an extensive UK Sport recognised Taekwon-Do specific instructor program. We are members of the BTC (British Taekwondo Council) and is the only group that is recognised and supported by the NSPCC.

There are gradings once every three to four months and students will be selected to take part in the grading if they have attended enough classes and can demonstrate the ability required to take the grading.

Starting out
All students begin with a 4 week trial where they have the opportunity to see what TKD is about with a variety of classes, after the trial the instructor when then spend some time talking to you about continuing afterwards. When first starting Taekwon-Do you just need to wear track suit bottoms and a T shirt and bring a bottle of water along to keep hydrated.
